Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who gives you the “silent treatment?” You know, they are close to you, could possibly live with you, but they neglect to talk to you. Maybe, you’re in a group and everyone talks to each other, but no one talks to you. Could it be that the only time the person will talk or communicate with you is when he or she needs something? How does that make you feel? Not good, I’m sure. This is an unbalanced relationship and it can be very frustrating.
Well, this is what we do when we neglect to pray. We give God the “silent treatment.” We know He is with us, but we do not talk to Him. We talk to everybody else. We ask others about the direction we should take. We seek comfort from other means, but we fail to talk to the One who has all the answers. We ignore the One who can provide us with everything we need. And He is there waiting for us to include Him.
You know, God wants to be our companion - our constant companion. The One we chat with daily and consult about everything. He said in Jeremiah 33:3 that we can call to Him and He will tell us things that we do not know and cannot find out. This is good news. There is no one else on earth that can do that! God wants to help us. He wants us to seek Him and stay in communion with Him - no pauses or breaks in our relationship. After all, He has availed Himself to us. He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deut. 31:6; Heb. 13:5).
So, let us stop giving God the “silent treatment”. Make it your practice to continually fellowship and talk with Him because communicating with HIM is the best conversation you will have all day!
